PCLC: Person Centered Language Coaching

Person Centered English Coaching is about You, for You and tailored to Your needs.

I carefully select methods and material that best enable you to achieve your language goals.

Learning takes place in a stress-free and safe environment (possibly in your home, communicating via internet channels) – as this is the foundation of efficient learning.

I, as a teacher do not have a favorite coursebook that I use all the time. We carefully hand-pick with each one of my students what works best for them. Sometimes no books at all.

Sofie tells me she is pretty good at English but she is afraid to talk at business meetings. First we deal with her blocks that hinder her from applying her existing knowledge. This is a coaching phase.

Later she decides she wants to improve her English and she would like to be able to easily follow her progress. She samples a couple of business English coursebooks and selects the one she prefers- we use this book flexibly, with lots of extras, videos, articles, case studies. Having 3 kids, she has no time for homework, so her learning takes place at lessons.

Later she decides she wants a Business English Exam. We shift into turbo, examine how much time she can dedicatet o preparation and adapt the learning process again.

Petra is preparing for her Matura Exam.

She loves English and easily absorbs it from the internet. She watches movies and writes poems in English,  she has a large circle of “international” friends.  She swims in the sea of the language like  a natural. In order to get a good Matura grade, we need to work a lot on her accuracy and she also needs to learn to talk/ write about abstract topics in an elaborate style. As time presses, we work intensively, concentrating on exams of earlier years, focussing on challenging grammar and language. It is only natural that we use messenger as our lesson communication channel.

Daniel wants to improve his business English skills: he wants to get better at negotiations and presentation. We work together via Skype.

He brings concrete cases and tasks. We dive deep into assertive communication, simulate negotiations, record his presentations and then analyze them. His progress is easy to follow.

Suzanne and Eva are moms on maternity leave and best friends. The want to keep their English alive and also some me-time. This works even with their babies present during the lessons. No note-taking, no homework here. I arrive with articles and topics- they do the same. Chatting, emotional ventilation, some tears, lots of laughter. They are planning to switch to some serious business English work before their return to work. roman-kraft-669711-unsplash.jpg
